1. Discuss what you thought about creating your logo.
Creating a logo that represents me while using symbols, colors and shapes that are accurate and simple was an interesting process. I am personally not well versed in digital art or logo production so this was a new process to me. I thought that this was an interesting assignment and was different than other assignments I have had to do in the past. I enjoyed this because it made me really focus on key ideas and the best way to symbolically show myself.
2. Describe the process: creative thinking skills and ideas you used in the logo creation.
I spent a lot of time during the sketching and idea generation of my logo because when i create drawings or paintings this is where I spend a lot of my time. I thought that if I focused more of my time and energy on the early stages then the later stages would come together. After watching the videos of what is in a logo I learned that I must show my identity in effect. This is used in companies and branding certain goods and services, I had to figure out what lines, symbols and colors I could bring together to produce a design that represented myself. There must be an end result or something that I want to leave my viewer with. I started out with the idea of Rosie the Riveter because I am a female who always pushes myself. I modified the design that is well known to lines and colors that represented me as a person such as my hair color. I also added elements that directly associate with what I value in life. I value the arts as a whole, my education and one of morals that I believe in very deeply is to always push yourself and become better. The paint brushes represent the arts and the emblem in the circle on the shirt is representative to Buffalo state, reflecting how important I feel about my access and abilities to education.
3. What was the most important discovery you made in the creation of your logo?
The simplicity of the logo was the discovery for myself in creating the correct representation of myself. Making my designs too elaborate was one challenge I believe, I think that modifying my lines and shapes was huge in creating something that was correct in terms of design. I found out that color has a huge effect on the overall look, theme and tone that you are trying to convey with your audience. This became a big part of what I wanted to show and how I went about this. Another aspect to this logo that I learned was how to make the logo as visually appealing to the elements and design while trying to get my main points out to my audience.
4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos, powerpoint, and reading material for this project? What is your opinion of the videos?
The videos provided the fundamentals of how to brand myself basically. That there must be an identity conveyed in a symbol, word or image that I want to portray myself with. The videos were helpful in how to go about this and what i should be focusing on. The video talks a lot about color, this became a focal point in my logo. The video was very formative on the basic ideas that professionals think of and center their graphic designers around as successfully individuals. The powerpoint was a good basis to work off of in terms of the history, terminology, the elements to include and what is important to take in account for logo production. Pictogram part of the powerpoint was a very useful slide to how I viewed this project and went about my logo. The laws were good to understand how to space things within a space, how one's eye should move through the logo and what should be emphasized in relation to the overall theme. I ended up using a lot of line and color accents in my piece. The reading material discussed the actual mapping out and drawing of a logo, although my logo has many details it represents each object with lines. The reading material is helpful when drawing out or mapping ones design out in an effective manner.
