1. Discuss what you thought about creating the Value Scale and Color Wheel.
Creating the color wheel takes time and precision when making the secondary colors. It isn't difficult with the primary color because those are the first ones to put down and are self explanatory. It is when you mix the primary to secondary to make the tertiary, where there needs to be a heightened attention to detail of color. These two exercises cover the two fundamental strategies that all artists have perfected, value and color. These are important when talking and understanding art, especially the elements and principles of design.
2. Which media did you enjoy working with the best and why?
Personally, I really enjoy working with both mediums because they both have different experiences. I do like working with pencil because it an accessible material that requires minimal preparation and clean up. Although color has more room to explore with value of color, pencil provides an opportunity to create something realistic and render objects to real life as well. Pencil and color are easy mediums if there is a mess up, you can either erase or just cover with paint. Pencil also is easier, I think when marking up proportions or lines down when preparing for block in of values.
3. What was the most important discovery in the creation of these studies?
The most important discovery in these exploratory studies of value and color would have to be depicting each task as it asked and correctly. Making sure the color hues and tones were correct was something that i was aiming for and kept referring to the textbook about. Another aspect that was important would have to be planning everything out before hand is essential in making sure everything is equal and precise. If you plan out each are that has to be colored or shaded in, the better off the final product will be.
4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos for this project? What is your opinion of the videos?
The video provided all of the information on how to grid out our paper for graphite with a ruler. The way to apply the medium on the paper and how to sharpen your pencils is essential. The way in which one must shave off the pencil with a box cutter and use the side of the pencil will have the best outcome of value. Also staying within the boxed lines and having the different values next to each other is an effective way to show the values changing. Placing a piece of paper over the boxes that have already been completed is an effective way to avoid smudging or dragging of the medium.
The color video shows proper mixing techniques of yellow, red, and blue first. Then they are mixed with the color next to each other to make purple, green and orange. The video shows how each of the colors are mixed and prepared in a circle to show how the color wheel works. At the end, it states that the primaries of cyran, magenta and yellow make the colors blue, green and red. This was all helpful when discussing the way to go about mixing the colors and how to place them, in relation to the text.
